PinkKorset.com, New York City – Perhelatan tahunan Tony Awards Ke-70 dibayangi aura kelam setelah sehari sebelumnya terjadi penembakan di sebuah klub malam di Orlando, Florida, Amerika Serikat (AS).
Sebanyak 50 orang tewas dalam tragedi tersebut. Tony Awards yang merupakan Piala Oscar untuk panggung teater, baik musikal maupun non-musikal, didedikasikan untuk mengenang para korban penembakan.
“Malam ini, seremonial Tony Awards ditujukan untuk mengenang para korban,” demikian para produser ajang tersebut dari Bacon Theather, NYC. Presenter dan komedian James Corden didaulat sebagai pembawa acara.
Penghargaan prestisius untuk para pelakon teater ini menampilkan wajah-wajah terkenal yang menjadi presenter award. Seperti Claire Danes, Lucy Liu, Oprah Winfrey, Keri Russel, Cate Blanchett, Carole King dan banyak lagi.
Hamilton memecahkan rekor sejarah pertunjukkan Broadway dengan 16 nominasi. Shuffle Along mendapatkan sepuluh nominasi dan She Loves Me dengan delapan nominasi.
